Lately the focus has mainly been on the Voedselpark campaign. Major steps are set. More than threehundred thousand euros have been collected and more than five thousand people have joined the plan. In the meantime, the destruction machine continues and a building permit has been issued for a distribution center of 5.5 hectares. Fifty-five thousand square meters of warehouse. Not a necessity but speculation
Exactly as we predicted: not a user who will build, but an investor who develops with an aim to profit. And look for a tenant or buyer. Not only that: it concerns the development of the plot on which agreements have been made with SEKU BV / Thunnissen. Development right obtained through corruption Let's take a step back in time: In 2009, the municipality of Amsterdam bought part of the polder for a lot of money from a land speculator. Partly with the intervention of then Deputy Hooijmaijers, who was convicted on this file for corruption. In addition to the multiple profit that SEKU made on the land, a cooperation agreement was also entered into giving them the right to develop 30% of the polder. After an investigation by Behoud Lutkemeer and questions from the Council, this agreement has been dissolved. However, the development right has been transferred to Thunnissen BV: a construction company affiliated with SEKU. Prepare unfounded construction In 2018, after a motion, the Cityboard decided that development would be phased. And only if agreements were signed. As the alderman also said: "it is my nightmare that buildings are being constructed for vacancy". And that is exactly what is happening now: as far as we know, there are no other reservations than the development right of SEKU/Thunnissen, which has been known since 2009 and it is not constructed by a user, but by an investor. Outdated plans The fact that the municipality does not keep to its own agreements is worrying. But much more worrisome is the fact that people at the Stopera do not want to realize that distribution centers in this location are a completely wrong choice. First of all, because we need to nurture fertile soil and climate change forces us not to put economic growth at first. Amsterdam is not a donut city, she creates her own plum pudding in the Lutkemeer. In addition, there is a great demand for local food production, the location for distribution does not make sense, because of its location and there are thousands of Amsterdammers who want to participate and pay to make Voedselpark Amsterdam possible. We will make that clear again in the coming period. Write a letter or contact through socials Let's just say it's people who have no idea about the Lutkemeerpolder and its value. We have the details of the project manager, the construction company and the project developer above. Write them a letter or an email. Speak to them on linkedin, twitter or give them a call. Here you will find a sample letter that can be used. Join us In the meantime, it is also spring and there are all kinds of activities in the polder. Come cycling and walking, visit the organic farm De Boterbloem or come and garden in the polder.
